Newly inducted VFES K-Kids with their Faculty Advisor Kara Dulaney.

The Vienna Finley Elementary School K-Kids held their ceremony to install new officers for 2017-18 and induct new members into the clubPresident Rachel Pelfrey of the SHS Key Club and President Sarah Everett of the SMS Builders Club installed the new officers.  There are sixty-seven members in the VFES K-Kids.  Kara Dulaney and Alyssa Elam are the Faculty Advisors and Al Riggle and Eric Mullins are the Kiwanis Advisors.  New members inducted into the VFES K-Kids are Abby Padgett, Abry Justice, Addy Akers, Aiden Cornelius, Alaina Lee, Alexsiya Scott, Bailee Amos, Bailee Loudermilch, Ben Nunley, Blayden Kimberlin, Brandt Kendall, Byrlee Busick, Cadee Helton, Caden Howell, Cameron Harrison, Camille King, Cason Owens, Chase Vaughn, Clayton Kock, Conner McDill, Daniel Jones, Danielle Nay, Danny McDonald, Desmond Hatton, Donnie Towne, Garrett McClellan, Jace Luttrell, Jesse Cochran, Jordan Lewis, Justus Jackson, Khloe Brown, Kinsey Juntunen, Lillian Jones, Lillie Broadus, Lily Siekman, Madilyn Holliday, Madison Brown, Marina Chandler, Marley Flennor, Mia Boiles, Myca Buckel, Neveah Witt, Paris Robbins, Sam Deshong, Scarlett Herald, Sophia Kirkman, Sophie Gricius, Taylor Busick, Taylor Hackett, Trevin Baldwin, Tristyn Beaver, Tucker Doriot and Wyatt RighthouseThe VFES K-Kids were chartered in February 2016 and were recognized by Kiwanis International as an Honor Club for 2015-16.  They were nominated in 2017 for the Mayor’s Good Neighbor Award in the Youth Category.  K-Kids is an international organization for elementary school students imbedded in the philosophy of building character and developing leadership through community service.  The vision is to develop competent, capable, caring leaders through the vehicle of serviceK-Kids is one of the Kiwanis family of clubs in the Service Leadership Program.  These young students develop and carry out service projects for their school and community.  They also participate in fundraising projects and use the money earned to support local charities or school concerns.  Congratulations to the VFES K-Kids!

 

Miracle Treat Day

I hope that you are all enjoying your summer! I just wanted to remind all of you that tomorrow is Miracle Treat Day! Indulge in a Blizzard Treat on Thursday, July 27th and participating Dairy Queen locations will donate $1 or more to Riley Hospital. What better reason to treat yourself to ice cream?!

The 2017 Indiana District Mid-Year Conference and 3 Wishes Gala are almost here! You won’t want to miss this opportunity to connect with fellow Kiwanis members from across the state, learn about new projects and programs, and support our 3 Wishes – Early Action for Autism initiative.
Mid-Year Conference
When: Saturday, March 11, 2017 – Registration opens at 8:30 am and the day ends at 4:00 pm
Where: 502 East Event Centre, 502 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel
Cost: $79.00 – This includes continental breakfast, lunch, breaks, and materials
3 Wishes Gala
When: Saturday, March 11, 2017 – Reception begins at 6:30 pm followed by dinner and program at 7:30 pm
Where: Indianapolis Renaissance North, 11925 N. Meridian Street, Carmel
Tickets: Individual tickets are $95.00 and include appetizers, a fabulous dinner, beer and wine throughout the evening, and entertainment by the Indianapolis Children’s Choir.

Distinguished Members of Kiwanis International for 2015-16

Sue Petrisin, President Kiwanis International, announced three members of the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club, David Wilson, Dave Church and Al Riggle were recognized as Distinguished Members of Kiwanis International for 2015-16This recognition is based on the member’s involvement in service projects and sponsoring new members into Kiwanis.  The Scottsburg Kiwanis Club has been serving kids in Scott County since 1961.  The Kiwanis believe the best way to improve a community is to improve the kids in that community!  The Kiwanis hold a dinner meeting weekly at The Kitchen on Thursdays starting at 6:30.

The Scottsburg Middle School Builders Club

The Scottsburg Middle School Builders Club participated in the annual Kiwanis 5K to raise money for the Child Abuse Prevention Program.  Thanks to outstanding community support they were able to raise $800 for this important program.  They won the $100 award for obtaining the most overall sponsors for the runPictured are Don Cooper from the Kiwanis club presenting the certificate to Builders Club President Treyton Caudill and members of the Builders Club.  The Builders Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and is part of the Kiwanis Family of Clubs in Scott County.  Their purpose is to develop leadership skills through community service.  Anyone interested in joining the Builders Club should contact Lisa Sutton, SMS Builders Club Faculty Advisor.
