On 20 June the Scottsburg Middle School Builders Club was recognized as the winner of the 2014 Scottsburg Mayor’s Good Neighbor Award for the Church/School/Civic/Other Youth Group category. The Scottsburg Kiwanis Club has sponsored the Builders Club at the middle school since 2012. This year marked the twenty-second anniversary of the Good Neighbor Awards Banquet and awards. The Builders Club earned this recognition by their volunteer service to the community this past school year. They helped ring the Salvation Army Bell to collect money for Clearinghouse during the Christmas season, raised money for Big Brothers/Big Sisters during the Bowl For Kids Sake, raised money and donated to CRADLE and Clearinghouse, helped the Kiwanis Club with numerous fund raisers during the year to support projects and programs for kids in Scott County. They helped do spring maintenance at the CASA House during Kiwanis One Day last April. They donated items and money to the OVO Head Start for their Christmas Party and pillow cases and cards to Riley Hospital.
The Builders Club is a Kiwanis Service Leadership Program to develop leadership in our middle schoolers through community service.
