The Scottsburg Kiwanis Club donated $229 to assist a family in Scott County living in a trailer with no air conditioning. The family comprised of two adults and six children with the youngest five and a half years old and with asthma needed some assistance. Thank you to all our members for all you do for our kids! Times are going to be extra tough for some of our families with the pandemic. We are honored to be able to help where needed!

The Scottsburg Kiwanis Club recognized Kiwanians Dave Church and Jack McWhirter as Outstanding Kiwanians for 2018-19. Pictured from left to right is Kiwanis President Al Riggle and Kiwanians Dave Church & Jack McWhirter. The recognition would have normally been presented at the Indiana District of Kiwanis Mid Year Convention. Since it was cancelled due to the pandemic, the awards were mailed to Club Presidents to present. The Scottsburg Kiwanis Club just resumed meeting enabling the presentation of the awards. Dave earned his award for his work with fundraising both leading efforts for raising money for scholarships via the annual Kiwanis Golf Scramble and for helping restructure sponsorship opportunities for our corporate members. The Golf Scramble has raised over $100K since it’s inception. Jack earned his award for his marketing and branding efforts for the club. Jack is the architect for our Kiwanis website and has helped with Kiwanis branding for banners, letterhead, shirts, etc. Our Scottsburg Kiwanis Club is effective serving the kids in our community due to the efforts of local Kiwanians like Dave Church and Jack McWhirter. Congratulations on a job well done!
First let me say thank you for all the support that your organization has been to CASA of Scott County. As the recruiter for this great cause, COVID-19 has made it impossible for me to do in person sharing. I am therefore looking for ways to reach anyone that would like to help these precious children we serve.
Our current volunteers have been very busy during this pandemic and have done amazing things to help these children. As with any crisis this virus has also increased the number of children coming into DCS care. In all of last year we served 271 children. So far this year we have served 233 children, but if you compare the same time frames we are actually up in service this year so far. Jan-July 2020= 233 served and Jan-July 2019 = 220 served.
As of Dec 2019 we had 46 children on our wait list. As of today we have 72 children on our wait list. So far this year we have had 95 new cases/ children enter into the system. At the same time in 2019 we had 67. That is an increase of 28 children entering the system this year as compared to last year. The increase in children entering the system accounts for the increase of the children on the waitlist almost perfectly. This year we have served 233 children so far even with the restrictions we are currently working through. With everything going on, our service to children has increased from the same time frame from last year when we served 220 children in 2019. By the end of last year we were very close to serving all of the children on our caseload.
As you can tell by the numbers WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are always looking for more volunteers to help us serve the 72 children on our wait list. We need your help, please call 812-752-4748 and ask for Paula Kern so we can start you in a virtual training class and you can be a voice for a child in need. Will you please join with me to make sure that no child in Scott County is without a voice.
Please share this flyer on your websites, post it on any social media that you use to get people involved. — Best regards,
Paula Kern Scott County CASA 36 Forrest Ave. Scottsburg, In. 47170 812-752-4748 Office 812-595-1153 Cell
