K Kids visit to the preschool

One of the most successful efforts our Kiwanis Club has embarked on the past six years is the sponsorship of Service Leadership Programs in Scott County.  As Kiwanis, we believe the best way to improve a community is to improve the kids in that community. Our Service Leadership Programs do that
There are two different types of Service Leadership Programs we sponsor in Scott county, programs like the BUG Progrram and Clubs like K-Kids, Builders Club and Key ClubOur Kiwanis Club in cooperation with both SCSD1 and SCSD2 sponsor the BUG Program in all five elementary schools in Scott County (~300 Students)We also sponsor two Key Clubs (SHS and AHS), a Builders Club (SMS) and two K-Kids Clubs (VFES and LES).  All of these clubs develop leadership through community service.  We have outstanding Faculty Advisors, Angela Bray (SHS), Rusty Jones & Chandra Tally (AHS). Lisa Sutton (SMS), Katie Sawin (VFES) and Lee Anna Willett (LES).  We have a strong team of Kiwanis Advisors to help me with these clubs, Terry Davis (AHS), Monte Roth (SHS and LES), and Eric Mullins (VFES)
All these students are learning how to think about how they can improve their community and school, how to plan projects, how to organize and schedule, how to speak and promote projects.  They are all making a difference in our community and our schools and I couldn’t be more proud of the students and advisors.  Several of our graduates are now in Circle K (the college version of SLP) continuing their development as leaders and community servants
A great example is the project the LES K-Kids just completed at the end of the school year.  They volunteered to assist with the Lexington Good Faith Pre-School giving up their recess to volunteer with these young pre-school students.  Just look at the pictures to see how much fun these students had serving these younger members of their community.  These are our leaders of the future
Thank you for the opportunity to work with them!  Thank you to all our faculty advisors and Kiwanis advisors.  You are making a difference and I’m proud to serve with you!
