Cassidy Carter recently spoke at the weekly Kiwanis dinner/meeting at The Kitchen on The Square in Scottsburg. Cassidy is the Manager for Community Outreach for Hosparus Health. Pictured are Kiwanian Guy Townsend and Cassidy Carter. She has been involved with senior care for over twelve years working in nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities. She considers herself foremost a senior advocate to help families in crisis that find themselves in a situation they don’t know how to handle. Cassidy spends a lot of time talking to community members about Hosparus and end of life issues. As of 1 March this year, Hosparus Health cares for people with chronic illnesses but not necessarily at end of life. Hosparus Health is working with the State of Indiana to determine what kind of licensing is required to work with patients in their homes. Hosparus Health is a Non for Profit organization. People who can’t afford hospice are not turned away. They are part of the National Hosparus and Palliative Care Organization. Cassidy provided numerous forms and pamphlets to provide assistance and information on such subjects as the Palliative Care Program and Advance Care Planning. She stressed the importance of having a plan in place to be able to fulfill the wishes of loved ones at the end of life. She passed out several forms from the Indiana State Dept of Health and an Advance Directives Pamphlet. The Kiwanis members thanked Cassidy for her most informative presentation.
