Please circulate this information through any e-mail list you may maintain. We are very excited about this year’s program. This is always a good opportunity for our community to get together on an important issue, and to enjoy a FREE LUNCH.
This will also be my FINAL LUNCHEON to host as Scott County Prosecutor, so I’d love to have record-breaking attendance!
Prosecutors Office to Host Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Luncheon
In observation of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October), the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office will once again be hosting its annual Awareness Luncheon. The luncheon, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for FRIDAY, October 7, 2016 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Mid-America Science Park in Scottsburg.
Featured speaker Caryn Burton, Training Coordinator for the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, will be presenting “Lethality Assessments and the DV Victim”
Intimate Partner violence is the 7th leading cause of death for women in the United States. Over 2/3rds of those killed were previous victims of Domestic Violence. Research has shown that the use of a simple, 12 question “Lethality Assessment” could help identify those most at risk, impress upon victims the urgency of their situation, and focus services where they are truly needed.
Topic of the discussion will include:
– What is Lethality Assessment?
– Where can it best be used?
– What factors place a victim most at risk for deadly violence?
– How can law enforcement and criminal justice benefit from the assessment approach?
– How can Lethality Assessment be used to demonstrate true danger for a victim?
I encourage our entire community to get together over this important topic, no matter what your background or profession. Anyone wishing to attend the luncheon is asked to RSPV to the Prosecutors Office at 812-752-8466 or to firstname.lastname@example.org by October 5, 2015.
The Scott County Prosecutors Office can be reached at (812) 752-8466. Information about any pending case can be found at http://mycase.in.gov.
