The Scottsburg Kiwanis Club donated $200 to Valerie Wilson, Chair of the Scott County Partnership Summer Meal Program Task Force and Ace Woodson, Scott County Partnership Summer Meal Program to cover the cost of gas used by Grace Covenant Church delivering the meals in Austin. Ace Woodson is the Special Projects Coordinator for the Scott County Partnership. This summer those projects include the weekly meal boxes and the week-day meal program.
The Scott County Partnership will distribute meal boxes provided by Gleaners Food Bank to families in Scott County every Friday when school is not in session.
The Scott County Partnership will also conduct the Summer Meal Program on Monday through Friday from May 31 to August 5, 2016. The meals are free for children age 18 and under. The meals are prepared by the Food and Nutrition Department of the Scott County Hospital and are funded by the USDA. In Austin the meals are served at the Hickory Creek Mobile Home Park in Spicertown and in the shelter house at the Austin City Park.
Grace Covenant Church in Austin will provide its church bus to deliver the meals to these locations. Volunteers from the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club and the Scottsburg United Methodist Church will serve the meals every Monday, and volunteers from other organizations will serve the meals on the other days of the week. So far 36 people have volunteered to serve the meals.
For more information on the Summer Meal Program or to volunteer for the Austin lunch sites please contact Ace Woodson at email@example.com or call him at 812-722-7708.
