Sara Silletto, Director of Development for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana recently spoke at the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club dinner/meeting at the Quality Inn in Scottsburg. Pictured are Kiwanis President David Wilson, Sara Silletto and Kiwanis member Jack Pitts. Sara Silletto is responsible for promoting awareness and finding funding for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana is to provide a “home away from home” for families of children receiving healthcare at area medical facilities while also lending support to other organizations who aid children. The rate of recovery for a child improves when a parent is present. Parents also learn how to care for their child when the child returns home.
In Louisville the Ronald McDonald House has 36 guest rooms serving over 1,800 families each year. Families receive free parking, free laundromat and free dinner.
Three hospitals feature Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, staffed by their volunteers, where families can rest, relax and heal.
All families are welcome, no matter what income bracket they are in. Families are not required to pay for the guest room or for the meals they receive.
People can help by making donations. The Ronald McDonald Houses is the “charity of choice” for McDonald’s and for Coca-Cola Corporation, but most of the funding comes from the local McDonald’s stores and the donation boxes in those stores.
People can also help by volunteering for 3 hours a day, 1 day a month, with laundry, housekeeping and meal preparation. For more information visit

The Scottsburg Kiwanis Club thanked Sara for her informative presentation, and encourages everyone to support the Ronald McDonald House when you visit McDonalds by making a generous contribution in the donation box.
