Scott County Hires Two Covering Kids and Families Outreach and Enrollment Specialists

Brandy Blank and Sharon Estep are the new Outreach and Enrollment Specialists for Covering Kids and Families of Scott County at the Scott County Partnership. Their primary goal is to help our county’s families enroll in Hoosier Healthwise, Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) and Marketplace coverage. Additionally, they help advise families on how to access, use and keep their health coverage.
Sharon and Brandy may be new to the Scott County Partnership but not to Scott County. Sharon grew up in Clark County but moved to Scott County in 1991 to marry her husband of 23 years. She has two daughters and lovingly talks about them and her four family pets. Her faith is very important to her, and she is passionate about helping people live a better quality of life and easing their burdens. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, crafting, reading, and spending time with her family.
Brandy grew up in the Leota area and she and her family continue to live there, as they love this area of the county. She graduated from Scottsburg High School and worked at Hancock’s Drug Store for many years as a certified pharmacy technician, as well as Humana where she helped customers understand their claims. She loves working in the health care industry because she enjoys helping people improve their quality of life. She is married and has a little girl. Her faith is also very important to her as well as family. She enjoys shopping and spending time with family and friends.
Their new positions will help uninsured families in Scott County get coverage and remain insured. By having two county advocates assisting with navigating the health system, Scott County will benefit greatly. Our citizens will receive assistance in obtaining the health coverage they need, which will, in turn, allow them to see a medical provider for preventative medical care or health issues; it will also ensure that patients can fill their necessary prescriptions.
Sharon’s passion is helping people. “This position allows me to do just that. When people have health coverage and get the medical care they need, the entire community benefits. We see less communicable diseases, lower morbidity and mortality rates, lower unemployment rates and more children succeeding in school. I’m excited to be a part in helping Scott County get healthy.”
Brandy believes that God led her to this new position. “I am excited about reaching out to the community and helping people get the insurance coverage they need. Anytime you can help someone better their lives, it will benefit the community.  It is crucial with our challenges to reach out to people and let them know that we are here to help them anytime with any needs they may have. I just want to make a difference and help better the lives of others in my community.”
Working with the Scott County Partnership will allow them to utilize community resources to help people in many ways. Meeting new people and getting involved in the community is something they look forward to as well.
Covering Kids and Families of Scott County is a wonderful coalition. It is their hope that all Scott County residents will take advantage of this free service and allow Brandy and Sharon to help make the process of securing and maintaining health coverage easier.
