Speaker:  Nancy Riley, Executive Director, United Way of Scott County

Nancy Riley, Executive Director United Way of Scott County recently spoke at the Kiwanis dinner meeting at the Quality Inn in Scottsburg.  On behalf of the United Way of Scott County, she presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club “in Recognition of Valuable Contributions to the United Way of Scott County.”  David Wilson, President of the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club, accepted the certificate for the Club.
One of the goals of the United Way of Scott County is to improve early childhood literacy.  Supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is one of the ways that the United Way achieves that goal.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library mails one book every month to a child from birth through age 5.  The books are high quality and are specific to the age of the child.  Currently 635 children are enrolled in the Imagination Library in Scott County, and 235 children have graduated from it.  Nancy Riley, Executive Director of the United Way of Scott County, said that teachers can tell when someone has read to a child, and that Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library truly makes a difference in improving early childhood literacy.

If the child’s home address is in Scott County, their parent or guardian can enroll them by contacting the United Way of Scott County by mail at P.O. Box 227, Scottsburg, IN 47170, or by calling 812-752-2586.  There is no cost to the child’s family to enroll.  The cost of $25 per child per year is paid by donations to the United Way of Scott County.

The Kiwanis Club of Scottsburg supports the United Way of Scott County and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.  The Club thanked Nancy for her informative presentation, and for all that she and the United Way does for our community.
