The Scottsburg Kiwanis Club recognized Al Riggle as the 2014-15 Kiwanian of the Year. President David Wilson is pictured presenting the plaque to him. Al serves the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club in many ways. He is a past president, current secretary, chaired the Assessment Committee, Finance and Fundraising Committee, Nominations Committee, Service Committee, is the Kiwanis Club Advisor to the Scottsburg Middle School Builders Club and the Scottsburg High School Key Club. Al is a member of the BUG Celebration Team, Membership Committee and has been a member of the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club since 22 April 2009. Al is an Indiana District Advocate for Riley Children’s Hospital, a member of the Clearinghouse Board, CRADLE Board, and chairs the Scott County Partnership’s Family Self Sufficiency Committee. He is the chair of the Scottsburg Christmas Planning Committee and a member of the Knights of Columbus. And just this fall, Al is chartering the Builders Club at Grace Christian Academy and the K-Kids Club at Vienna-Finley Elementary School. He will be the Kiwanis Advisor for both clubs. Al writes the captions for many of the articles that are printed in The Scott County Journal, The Giveaway and The Good News Chronicle, and submits the articles for publication. Nelson Spaulding, the recently retired head of the Scott County Clearinghouse, credited Al with the success of the Salvation Army Bell Ringing. All of the money raised in Scott County by the Bell Ringing benefits The Clearinghouse. The number of days has been expanded. Scott County is the only county in Indiana in which 100% of the bell ringing is done by volunteers and not by persons paid to ring the bell. The motto of Kiwanis International is “Serving the children on the world.” Al Riggle exemplifies what Kiwanis is all about. In addition to serving in official positions and serving on committees, Al works directly with the students as the Kiwanis Advisor for the Key Club, the two Builders Clubs and the K-Kids Club. He leads the celebrations at BUG Parties. He is a cheerful, enthusiastic ambassador for the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club. David Wilson noted “Al has guided me as the president of the club. I could not have fulfilled my responsibilities effectively without his support and advice.”
