The Scottsburg Kiwanis Club awarded Don Cooper the Starfish Award for his efforts to make a difference for kids in Scott County. The Starfish Award recognizes those Kiwanis members who through sustained service or a significant single effort make a difference for kids in our community. Don Cooper serves the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club in many ways. He schedules the speakers for the weekly dinner meetings. This year the speakers have included representatives of non-profit service organizations, business executives, educators, coaches and even some Kiwanis members. Don is the photographer for many Kiwanis events.
Don organizes the pancake breakfasts and the Spaghetti Dinner. President David Wilson noted the two pancake breakfasts the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club hold each year have been so successful that the Club will expand the program in 2015-16 to three breakfasts, and we have invited more organizations to sell tickets and keep 100% of the money they collect. Don has supervised the Taco Wagon at the Scott County Fair for many years. This is a long-established Kiwanis fund raiser that many people look forward to each year. Millie deserves special thanks for all that she does for the Taco Wagon, and for many other Kiwanis programs. Don is there to help set up and take down the Kiwanis Tent. Don is there at the BUG Celebration Parties every grading period in every elementary school. He’s a past Lieutenant Governor for the Kiwanis Scenic Hills Division and has been a member of the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club for 38 years, since March 17, 1977. President David Wilson thanked Don for all he does for Kiwanis and for the children of Scott County, and for being a good friend.
