Get Healthy Scott County met today. The focus of the meeting was public transportation in Scott County.
Southern Indiana Transit System (SITS) provides two forms of public transportation.
There is a scheduled bus route for Scott County that runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There is a morning route and an afternoon route. The route goes through Scottsburg and Austin. There is a brochure with the times and locations of the scheduled stops. The cost is $1.00 per boarding, per person, for each city bus.
There is also a demand/response transportation service. It operates Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. It serves citizens of Crawford, Harrison, Scott and Washington Counties. To schedule a trip, the customer calls toll-free 1-866-738-1681. Unlike a taxi service, there may be more than one customer in the vehicle. SITS schedules the pick-ups so that rides can be consolidated. There is a brochure which explains this service.
Cost:
0 to 10 miles: $2.00 per one way, per person
11 to 20 miles: $3.00 per one way, per person
20+ miles: $4.00 per one way, per person
If you travel outside the four-county service area, there will be an additional charge of $1.25 per mile, per one way, per person.
Roland Lemus from SITS explained both services and answered questions.
This was a very informative meeting.
